San Marino, 2019. The world’s fifth smallest sovereign state punches above the weight of its landmass when it comes to historical facts. It lays claim to be both the oldest surviving state and the oldest republic thanks to Saint Marinus, a stonemason who founded a monastery on Monte Titano in AD 301, and to subsequent rulers who kept San Marino safe from wars that ravaged the Italian peninsular over the ages.
But alas, it doesn’t punch above its weight in international football. 😦 It is however very good at being on the wrong end of some extremely damn good thrashings. :s
